New german and austrian domains (öäü)

Everyone knows that the new domains with the special mutations ö,ä,ü ect. could be visited with the PlugIn from Verising.

But now you can use a Software from www.g4bi.com that will fit a whole PC or a whole network to the new domains. I think that some italians does not have such special keys on their keybords, therefore you are able to use an JavaApplet to type the special keys and browse to even your computer is not able to understand the new domains.

For software and web developer there are free Java and .Net Libraries and an Active X Control.

The site of www.g4bi.com will bee soon become italian.

I am interessted in you opinion to this topic, but please answer in english.

I've never heard about the possibility of using "special" letters (such as ä, ö and ü) in the domain name.
But I don't understand what the problem is..

Why shouldn't people know how to write those characters? :master:
And if there's a link (for example) which leads to www.häuser.de there's no problem for users!
They simply have to click it!



ps: not only german uses those letters... and think of other languages which uses MORE special characters (polish)...

If you use a Browser that is fit for these domains, its no problem, but the Microsoft IE does not understand international domain names and if you want to write an mail, maybe to office@müller.de, your EMail Client, for example Outlook is no possible to send.

Next to öäü there are more different characters you can use for the new domains, 35 of these you could type with the Java Applet from www.g4bi.com

The Applet shows a german keybord with öäü and another 33 special keys. You can use this to type a domain, than you can browse to this or you can see the IDN String for example www.müller.de -> www.xn--mller-kva.de or convert an Email Adress.
