Esistono degli script che permettono di generare al volo delle thumbmails, mi consigliate qualcosa di facile da usare visto che sono alle prime armi con php...

Prova a leggere l'articolo sulle lib GD di freephp, poi prova a cercare tra gli script.

Magari fatti un giro anche su hotscript.com
