alla fine ho installato Ubuntu... in ambiente mac per un lavoro che ho fatto ho usato un software chiamato crushftp. Vorrei un software che funzionasse allo stesso modo su Ubuntu esiste? Sempre gratuito ovviamente.

Per ottenere l' equivalente di crushftp devi accoppiare un server ftp qualsiasi linux se usi ubuntu dovresti gia avere vsftpd installato ,o comunque lo trovi sui repository.
Mentre per la parte http https ecc ecc puoi usare apache che dovrebbe essere gia installato o comunque facilmente installabile e configurabile sempre attraverso repository.
