per chi ama le distro super aggiornate e da configurare a manina sul modello di slackware, è stata rilasciata archlinux 0.7:

I think we should be proud." Here is the full release announcement. Download: arch-0.7-base.iso (210MB), arch-0.7.iso (560MB); also available via BitTorrent. For your information, the "base" ISO only contains the kernel and essential packages, while the full ISO image includes a complete Arch system with X.Org and the IceWM graphical desktop. Additional applications are available for installation with the "pacman" package manager.

ArchLinux quotes itself as being “an i686-optimized linux distribution targeted at competent linux users.” Part of its philosophy is that by not providing you with lots of configuration utilities, you are forced to “learn the ropes” and you will benefit from the additional knowledge acquired. A sensible approach you may think, and is fine for experienced and/or fearless techies. You know that this isn't going to be the distro to recommend to your mother! But, I wouldn't say ArchLinux is elitist as some readers may fear. Sure, you will be frowned upon (to put it mildly) if you ask questions in the forums that are blatantly answered in the main documentation. However, expecting users to actually edit the appropriate config files manually isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

Sì arch non è male come distro. E' qualche mese che la uso. Ma ci sono almeno due difetti che potrebbero essere risolti:

- viene usato /opt per l'installazione di applicazioni come gnome. Altre invece vengono installate nella tradizionale /usr. IMHO potrebbero mettere tutto in /usr.

- servirebbe uno strumento per gestire l'aggiornamento dei file di configurazione (magari esiste già e non lo conosco) simile a etc-update di gentoo.

Mah, poi vedo! Al momento mi trovo bene con slackware!
