apache non visualizza pagine html

ciao,
ho reinstallato per l'ennesima volta apache e per la prima volta sto avendo dei problemi...

il metodo che seguo è sempre lo stesso:
http://legnago.linux.it/articoli/Apache-Php-MySQL.txt

ma questa volta, per ragioni a me sconosciute, apache non mi visualizza le pagine html, ma ne mostra il codice. come mai?

quando vado su 127.0.0.1 non vedo la classica pagina di benvenuto di apache, ma la lista dei file contenuti nella directory.

chi mi dà una mano?

EDIT: ho fatto una prova con un sito in php e non mi visualizza nemmeno quello...
eppure la classica pagina test.php funziona benissimo...

controlla che nel file di configurazione di apache (sovente /etc/apache/httpd.conf oppure /etc/httpd/httpd.conf)

ci sia questa direttiva

Quando entri in un sito Apache visualizza il primo file indicato nella riga "DirectoryIndex", se non c'è il secondo e così via ... Se nella dir alla quale accedi non c'è nessuno di questi file ti fa l'elenco.

Quindi, probabilmente nella "DirectoryIndex" non è elencato il file che vuoi avviare in automatico.

Se con 127.0.0.1 non parte la pagina di benvenuto, l'avrai cancellata o rinominata o modificato la "DirectoryIndex".

sulla mandrake con apache 2, nel file /etc/httpd/conf/commonhttpd.conf, ho:

ho provato come dici, ho riavviato apache, ma il risultato non cambia: la pagina di test php funziona, l'html no.

ma se metti solo una pagina index.html, e richiami l'host senza specificare il file cerca di caricare la index.html oppure non visualizza nulla? (sta cosa del codice html comunque è assurda, perchè apache rimanda il codice html puro, è il browser che lo interpreta..)
