Aprire finestra in pop up da immagine

salve, dovrei aprire una finestra da pop up attraverso il clic su un'immagine.

esattamente nella pagina principale ho messo lo script

ora cosa applico all'immagine? ho provato ad inserire un'areae sensibile applicando al link
javascript:POPUP()

ma non va, che codice andrebbe messo?
