sono passato da libero.it ad alice e ho modificato i dns tramite il pannello di controllo.
breve navigata e vedo che funziona. riavvio e PERDE tutte le impostazioni.
al boot leggo questo messaggio:
could not read interface file /etc/network/interface (come faccio a postarvi il log del boot, perchè c'è un altro errore che non sono riuscito a scrivere?)
entro in kde (vesione 4.2.2), come root, e non ho più ip, dns e tutto il resto. scheda di rete sconfigurata!!!

con il comando
ifconfig eth0 up e ifconfig eth0 add 192.168.123.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 cerco di configurarla, PERO' non riesco a inserire il gateway, INOLTRE al riavvio perde le impostazioni.
la rete deve essere così: 192.168.123.254 subnet 255.255.255.0, gw 192.168.123.254,
dns: 192.168.123.254 e 212.216.112.112
linux mi odia con win in 2 secondi l'ho riconfigurata e funziona.
chi mi aiuta? la volta scorso per lo stesso problema ho dovuto rifare il pc.
ma come diavolo è possibile che per configurare un nuovo dns fa sto casino??
