Bochs e VMWare sono diversi ma dovrebbero entrambi fornire la possibilita' di emulare Sistemi operativi diversi dall'host.

Sapevo del byte code verifier, del class loader e del security manager ma non che vengono chiamati sandbox
Fatto sta che è banale cambiarne il comportamento riscrivendo la JVM

Beh si le prestazioni sembrano essere pietose... peggio della JVM Sun e di tanto fra l'altro... potrebbe avere un senso su dispositivi embedded con processori che interpretino bytecode in hardware, esistono ancora?

Secondo me sugli embedded si installa linux e basta, senza cercar notte con Java.
