Non so' se il wvdial è in relazione a questo driver, ma lanciandolo con wvdial /etc/wvdial.conf non trova nessun modem...
Modprobe slamr

Prima abiliti il driver altrimenti è scontato che non lo toverà mai.
Includilo in /etc/modules-2.6.9-... in modo che venga caricato automaticamente quando avvi il sistema.Cosi:
