Hai ragione...Dunque il mail server e' installato ed e' posfix. nel php.ini ho scritto cosi:

SMTP = localhost

; For Win32 only.
sendmail_from = mioindirizzo@mioindirizzo.it

; For Unix only.  You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").

sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix -t -i
Prima il sendmail_path era /usr/sbin/sendmail e come risultato della funzione mail() non restituiva nulla.
