[XUBUNTU] impostare locale

Ciao,
non riesco mai a ricordarmi come cavolo si impostano i locale sulle varie distro. Mi sembrava che il file che gestisce i locale fosse /etc/profile ma non e' cosi' (o per lo meno, non su xubuntu).

Se do il comando locale, ottengo questo:

# locale

Installando determinati pacchetti, compare il seguente messaggio d'errore:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
        LANGUAGE = "it_IT:it:en_GB:en",
        LC_ALL = (unset),
        LANG = "it_IT.UTF-8"
    are supported and installed on your system.

Come lo risolvo?

Inoltre, ho notato che su Ubuntu la localizzazione in italiano e' completa e di buona qualita', su Xubuntu invece no. E' un problema di distro oppure devo riconfigurare qualcosa?

poi dai un dpkg-reconfigure locales e fagli fare i vari locales poi scegli it@euro o uno degli iso it

Non funziona. Ci avevo gia'_ provato ma non va:

localeconf non mi fa scegliere nessun locale: si limita a mostrare la serie di messaggi indicati sopra.

Aggiungo che ho provato anche a modificare a mano il file /etc/environment ma non ho risolto molto.
