delucidazioni su Ubuntu

Salve a tutti, ho installato la versine 1.3 Ultimate edition di UBUNTU e mi trovo molto bene, però avrei alcuni quesiti per i quali chiedo ml'aiuto di qualche esperto:

- si può (e come si fa) upgradare la versione da me utilizzata alla v. 7.04 ??
- avendo una digitale fujii finepix a-400, quale programma posso usare per scaricare sul
PC le foto?? (ho provato con digikam ma la mia digitale non è supportata...)
- avendo ALICE 20 mega con modem ALICE W-GATE e volendomi collegare ad internet
non da terminale ma come avviene in Windows tramite icona sul desktop, come devo
fare??
- avendo un modem router Netgear DG834, lo posso utilizzare al posto del W-GATE ?? (non
ho ancora capito a cosa serve la smartcard nell'ALICE W-GATE)

Io per la connessione ad internet su UBUNTU ho installato KPPP.
UBUNTU vede il tuo MODEM/ROUTER ADSL?
Se si tratta di un ROUTER secondo me dovresti collegarti al ROUTER ed al suo programma di gestione e configurarlo in modo da connettersi da solo ad internet.
Da PC quindi, collegato al router con un cavo di rete, basta configurare la scheda di rete.

la scheda serve x la sicurezza che comunque da quello che si legge in giro quel router proprio non ha comunque non serve nessuna icona perchè se entri nei setting del router tramite la pagina http://192.168.1.1 vedrai che puoi impostare la voce x il collegamento automatico ad internet quando accendi il router. se utilizzi il wgate installati 1 buon firewall visto che quel router ne è sprovvisto anche se con linux stai tranquillo le porte di casa è sempre bene tenerle chiuse ti consiglio guarddog o firestarter abbastanza semplici da configurare. discorso diverso x il netgear che secondo me è 1 ottimo apparecchio già provvisto di 1 ottimo firewall hardware x configurarlo accedi tramite http://192.168.0.1 e anche questo puoi configurare x accesso automatico ad internet quando lo accendi indipendentemente dal fatto che tu abbia acceso o meno il pc.

Per finire Ultimate linux 1.3 è Ubuntu-Edgy , per aggiornare a Feisty è sufficente aggiornare x feisy il sources.list poi da console :
apt-get update && apt-get -f dist-upgrade
Se hai una buona connessione adsl in mezzora l' upgrade fa a buon fine senza problemi.
Per quanto riguarda l' aggiornamento su feisty del file /etc/apt/sources.list il cambio da edgy feisty va fattu su tutto il set di indirizzi incluso Automatix2

Il sources.list rimane invariato per tutte le piattaforme (AMd64-i386.ecc) , anche se io come puoi notare dalle prime due righe ho installato la i386 da supporto dvd.
