    Freeze Ubuntu 7.10

    Per voi geni di GNU/Linux ho un bel quesito/bug da risolvere

    Ho Ubuntu 7.10 su scheda madre ASUS M2N e chipset nforce4 ( purtroppo ), scheda grafica NVIDIA GeForce 7

    con acpi=off e noapic almeno parte ( ha una DSDT non standard, mi dicono )

    non si spegne da solo, ma questo è il meno

    il problema grosso sono i freeze... ossia si blocca per diversi minuti più o meno tutto ( la grafica, ma anche Rhythmbox e per parte del tempo anche il mouse non si muove )

    vorrei evitare di ricompilare il kernel per sistemare la DSDT e magari basta qualche configurazione che ignoro... magari è anche qualcosa che non c'entra col DSDT!

    Ho ravanato su google ma i problemi di freeze son talmente tanti che è difficile capire... potrebbe anche essere un problema di Xserver

    non ho provato tutte le distro che esistono, ma avevo gli stessi problemi con la 7.04, anche se sembravano meno frequenti... ho visto che più uso effetti del desktop ( XGL? compiz? ) e più ho problemi...

    ora mentre copio/incollavo si è bloccato di nuovo tutto e si è riavviato X penso ( sono ritornato alla schermata con username e password dopo diversi minuti di freeze ), ho messo username e password e Gnome ( X? ) ha perso tutte le impostazioni del desktop ( anche la risoluzione mi sembra percui penso X )... una finestrella mi diceva che c'era stato un errore inatteso... ho riavviato ed eccomi di nuovo qui con tutto a posto

    quando si freeza si blocca proprio tutto: mouse, tastiera, musica, schermo... tutto

    comunque se hai trovato la soluzione patchamdo il kernel e ricompilando prova a farlo, imparare a compilare un kernel può sempre tornare utile.

    7.10 crash

    Allora la 7.10 specie la 64 bit ha molti problemi, il + fastidioso è un incompatibilità con alcuni hd sata e il kernel ma non basta ricompilare infatti in molti hanno problemi anche con i recenti driver nvidia me compreso. I crash + frequenti sono relativi al'uso del plugin flash e di java, risultato firefox e altre applicazioni note come azureus vanno frequentemente in crash, ah e come ciliegina c'e' anche un mancato sostegno di base verso certo schede video, sembra che le 8800 e in genere tutte della serie 8000 nvidia abbiano problemi, si arriva perfino al totale spegnimento della scheda anche se non gira nessun programma, come se andasse in power saving indi si blocca il tutto e l'unico rimedio è resettare.
    Sul forum di ubuntu se ne discute da parecchio ma non si trovano soluzioni adeguate al momento tranne quella di rimanere alla 7.04 altrimenti cambiare distro, mandriva o meglio opensuse sembrano ottimi candidati...
    Oltretutto e non perchè ho preso in odio ubuntu anzi parecchie ubuntu derivate presentano stessi difetti, un esempio è mepis (con certi tipi di hardware) indi personalmente io passo a opensuse 10.3 almeno sulla partizione principale visto che non si riesce + a lavorare con ubuntu..

    Allora la 7.10 specie la 64 bit ha molti problemi, il + fastidioso è un incompatibilità con alcuni hd sata e il kernel ma non basta ricompilare infatti in molti hanno problemi anche con i recenti driver nvidia me compreso.     vabbè ma hai messo insieme 25 bugs diversi
    anche a me si pianta il browser con i filmati flash quando cerco di chiuderli... ma vabbè è una questione molto meno grave
    come il fatto che i filmati non si vedano... solo righe verdi orizzontali... ma lì basta settare l'output su x11 o roba simile... su VLC son riuscito a sistemare, su Totem non ho idea di come si faccia
