driver nVidia su openSUSE 10.3

ho scaricato i driver per la mia nVidia 8500GT (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.12-pkg2.run)
da terminal eseguo il comando #sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.12-pkg2.run

e il programma si avvia con il seguente errore:

ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before
installing.

come faccio a killare il processo "X" e ad eseguire l'installazione dei driver nel terminal?

devi chiudere sessione e al login manager scegli tra le sessioni console login

e una volta installati driver ripartire con startx

http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-...r-HOWTO.html#1 leggi con attenzione il readme specifico per suse nella pagina dei drivere sei fai pasticci e l'interfaccia non riparte da terminale il comando yast ti permette anche di cambiiare driver

sono riuscito a installare i driver però è sorto un altro problema, l'accelerazione 3D è
disabilitata..

il problema sembra essere che la scheda non è inclusa nel database Xgl.
qualcuno mi sa spiegare cos'è il database Xgl o come posso risolvere il problema?

Se l' installazione dei driver è andata a buon fine l' accelerazione grafica in realtà è attiva anche a dispetto di sax 2 . Provare per credere , Compiz fusion funziona alla grande senza problemi sia con Gnome che con Kde.

per abilitare i driver devi anche dare il comando


sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia
per compiz e company guarda qui http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA

lascia perdere sax ed installa i .run driver originali sal sito di nvidia ,nella maniera classica , da console senza X (init 3).
