uso del tag scope in una tabella

Scusate, qualcuno mi sa dire esattamente a che serve il tag scope inserito in <th>??

ad esempio:

Serve per rendere le tabelle accessibili se l'utente utilizza uno screen reader.

L’attributo Scope, all’interno di Th, serve allo screen reader per identificare le colonne e le righe.
Questo attributo può avere 3 valori:
* COL, per indicare le colonne,
* ROW, per indicare le righe,
* COLGROUP, per indicare i raggruppamenti di colonne.
