il mouse, ovviamente, va benissimo anche come usb1. Il problema sorge, quando usando win xp virtualizzato in virtualbox, se connetto una periferica USB (in questo caso una webcam ad alta risoluzione - "Scopetex DCM300 USB2 " di cui non trovo driver per linux) win si lamenta dicendomi di collegarla ad una porta USB2. Nota che in virtualbox le porte sono indicate come usb2.
Ovviamente la webcam non funziona, mostra solo qualche immagine tutta pasticciata ...

No invece è proprio così, è ciò che ti stavo facendo notare prima.
Il dispositivo 0 è USB 1.1 e il dispositivo 1 è USB 2.0.
Nel primo (0) vi è attaccato il mouse, l'altro è libero e quindi immagino vi hai attaccata la webcam.
Ma con Virtualbox il problema si complica, prova a fare una cosa, se ce l'hai, togli la webcam e inserisci una chiavetta usb qualsiasi, vedi se l legge e identifica dal pannello di controllo/sistema di XP a quale porta è effettivamente collegata.
Inoltre sempre da pannello di controllo/sistema, guarda come XP ha virtualizzato le porte USB, c'è il caso che le identifichi come USB 1 comunque, ad un mio amico è successo con un'istallazione di XP nativa non virtualizzata.

Si è possibilissimo anzi piuttosto nella norma.
Ma la configurazione del bios ti dovrebbe permettere di individuarle , che poi se son solo 2 n' è che ci siano tante combinazioni da verificare.

grazie mille delle preziose info. Appena ho un pò di tempo farò qualche prova in merito.
Un'altra cosa che non capisco è perchè virtualbox ( meglio la macchina virtuale win xp) a volte mi da l'usb attivo ed a volte no. Ma questa è un'altra storia con la quale credo vi stresserò in futuro ...
