Scheda TV (EMPIRE) su Kubuntu 8.10

ma non so cosa fare per verdere questa dannata televisione sul mio PC

Scheda TV (EMPIRE Portable Media Station)
- driver sono solo per Windows XP e Vista quindi non so come fare..

alcune informazioni:

Quando inserisco la scheda sul mio notebok dove è installato il s.o. Kubuntu 8.10,

con il comando lsusb dalla shell mi compare questa riga:

prova a dare il comando

# lsusb -v

(se come mi pare di capire è una scheda USB). Se invece è PCI dai il comando

# lspci -v

Ti da numerose info tra le quali quelle dettagliate sulla tua scheda.

Con queste prova a fare una ricerca su google.it/linux, molto probabilmente troverai documentazione in merito.
La prima cosa da fare è capire che chip usa, se uno della famiglia "Conexant bt878, ecc... " od un "SAA7135 ...." (non ricordo la sigla esatta, me ne ero occupato tempo addietro per la mia scheda tv PCI che usa il bt878.). Poi non so, magari oggi esistono anche altri chip.

Fatto questo, bisogna cercare in appositi elenchi (reperibili su internet) il tipo di "tuner" che la scheda monta (e qui la storia può essere un pò più lunga perchè non è detto che tutti gli esemplari di una determinata scheda montino sempre lo stesso tuner ...". Per trovare il tuner (se il sistema non lo becca al volo ...) bisogna andare per tentativi. Io, ad esempio, avevo un elenco con una cinquantina di tuner (numerati da 1 a 50 ed il mio era il 51 o qualcosa del genere.

Comunque, individuato il tipo di scheda, il chip che usa ed il tuner che usa, bisogna poi vedere di impostare questi dati, il che può variare da una distribuzione all'altra.

Il tutto può essere un pò macchinoso, ma di solito funziona.

Comunque, se fai una ricerca su google.it/linux con oggetto bttv trovi numerosi post con discussioni in merito, tra cui alcune mie, e di altri (guardati anche una di "luca pietrolati") in cui si era giunti a soluzione dei problemi.

Se hai bisogno chiedi, anche se i miei ricordi in merito sono ormai un pò confusi ...
