Ciao a tutti.
Sto comprando questo server server ML115G5, ma ho visto che come linux mi dava installabile red hat enterprise edition e Suse enterprise edition.
Ma sono entrambi a pagamento?

Io mi ero installato Ubuntu su un portatile e devo dire che mi era piaciuto. Secondo voi posso installarlo?

red hat e suse sono a pagamento.. oltre alla licenza paghi il supporto

se non hai necessita di supporto tanto vale installarsi una distro da soli

la stessa ubuntu da te indicata.. può essere benissimo installata (LTS mi raccomando)

devo scaricare una versione server o quella normale?

significa quel che significa

supporto a lungo termine (fixxaggi si intende), 5 anni per i server.. è la versione pensata per l'ambito enterprise...

devi installare la versione server.. su un server che vuoi installare?

Ricorda che la versione server non ha interfaccia grafica, come dev'essere.

ok, sto andando sul sito di ubuntu italia a leggermi un po' tutto...
perdonami però ti passo il link del server che sto per prendere... ho un ansia terribile che qualche qualche cosa non possa andare bene... poi mi sparano qui in ufficio!

Le versioni server dovrebbero esser solo a linea di comando. Tuttavia, nulla ti vieta di installare X e tutta l'interfaccia gfx in seguito.

e se invece installasi la versione normale cosa puo' succedere? ho le stesse funzioni che mi da quella server solo che è più pesante?

There are a few differences between the Ubuntu Server Edition and the Ubuntu Desktop Edition. It should be noted that both editions use the same apt repositories. Making it just as easy to install a server application on the Desktop Edition as it is on the Server Edition.

The differences between the two editions are the lack of an X window environment in the Server Edition, the installation process, and different Kernel options.

Kernel Differences:

* The Server Edition uses the Deadline I/O scheduler instead of the CFQ scheduler used by the Desktop Edition.
* Preemption is turned off in the Server Edition.
* The timer interrupt is 100 Hz in the Server Edition and 250 Hz in the Desktop Edition.

La versione server è "tunata" per tale scopo.
Se il servizio che devi offrire non è critico (come mi sembra di capire dal tipo di server), IMHO, usa pure la desktop.
