Con file .htaccess nel server non va (err. 500)

Ciao a tutti, avrei bisogno di impostare alcune variabili php come il limite di upload e la visualizzazione degli errori (correntemente crea un file log per gli errori).

Il problema è che quando metto il file .htaccess nella cartella del server, qualsiasi pagina apro mi dà l'errore 500:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@chicorey.it and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Come fare?

Niente, non va.
Nemmeno mettendo solo questo:

Però se il file è vuoto funziona

probabilmente stai tentando di fare modifiche che il tuo hosting non consente... prova a chiedere a chi ti fornisce lo spazio web

Ma perchè non provi a fare le stesse cose ma in php?

ini_set("post_max_size", "51M");
ini_set("upload_max_filesize", "50M"); 

per gli errori invece

error_reporting(E_ALL);
