Se hai fatto il login come utente e sei diventato root con
su
devi dare il comando (da utente):
xhost +
O più semplicemente esegui il comando che vuoi con diritti di amministratore con
sudo nomeprogramma

e fare partire i programmi.
Ma tu hai eseguito il login come utente??

Dovrebbe essere sufficiente utilizzare gksu/gksudo da utente.

Da user in effetti funziona (anche senza lanciare xhost) ma da root neanche a parlarne, sebbene abbia fatto come tu mi hai suggerito.xhost + lo devi dare da utente!!

Su ubuntu hanno deciso di optare per sudo.
Se vuoi eseguire gedit per modificare un file di amministrazione, devi eseguire questo:
sudo gedit
Ti verrà chiesta la password DEL TUO UTENTE e gedit partirà coi diritti di root...
