hard disk che non va in /dev

ecco il mio problema
ho collegato un hard disk esterno tramite usb.
ho usato il comando

modprobe usb_storage

per installare l'usb...tutto bene.
il probl è che in /dev non trovo il file sd con il quale mi riconosce l'hard disk...
