risoluzione video ubuntu5.10 sbagliata

ciao a tutti
non riesco piu a impostare la risoluzione dello schermo come era all'inizio dell'installazione di ubuntu e cioe 1280x800
ho scaricato e installato i driver x la mia scheda ati
non so se dipende da questo
ora se vado su sistema->preferenza->risoluzione dello schermo mi da la possibilità di scegliere solamente le risoluzioni fino a 1024x768
c'è il modo di reimpostare la vecchia risoluzione x il mio schermo widescreen?

ecco il nuovo file di configurazione xorg.conf derivato dall'nstallaizone dei driver ati,
continua a darmi risoluzioni sbagliate (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480)

metti come driver radeon
probabilmente poi ti offre altre risoluzioni

se ha i problemi esci da xserver e dai il comando
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg e seleziona solo le risoluzioni che vuoi dopo avere messo radeon o fglrx se hai installato i driver
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg ti permette doi fare tutte le prove che vuoi
poi dai startx per controllare

Ho lo stesso problema di 6sic6, con: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg provando a selezionare i driver ati non parte x, con i vesa parte ma la risoluzione max è di 1024x768 e non posso impostare 1200x800.
Il kernel è 2.6.12-9-386
X protocol version 11 Release 6.8.2
e la scheda è una ATI RADEON X600

come posso risolvere il problema?

inoltre ho dovuto installare anche: fglrx-kernel-2.6.12-9-386
sudo apt-get install fglrx-kernel-2.6.12-9-386

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
e selezionare i driver fglrx
