Impaginazione con tabelle

Mi spiegate perchè con Visual Studio 2005 se scrivo questo codice:

Vedo la tabella a tutto schermo con le 2 celle con sfondo in mezzo
alla pagina mentre se solamente tolgo il "border" mettendolo a zero
mi visualizza tutto in alto a destra nell'angolo???????

E' incredibile!!!!
