X non parte più...

Salve, mi succede da un paio di giorni sul notebook che non si avvia più X. Praticamente si blocca su "Starting up X11 session manager...". Se provo a dare startx da shell mi da: "Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation". E praticamente non va più avanti, rendendo di fatti inutilizzabile il pc..

Inoltre, quando torna alla shell, da:

Ho KDE aggiornato alla 3.5.1 e X11 alla 6.9.0.

prova a vedere che dice avviando kdm

/opt/kde/bin/kdm restart
altrimenti prova a riconfigurare con xorgconfig

Restartando kdm da un paio di volte la schermata nera e poi torna alla shell, niente di più né errori di alcun genere.

Il problema è che con xorgconfig a tante domande non saprei rispondere... Ma possibile che la vecchia configurazione si sia alterata da sola?!

Dubito si sia alterata "da sola", forse hai provato ad installare qualche driver per la tua scheda video?

No, per niente. Ultimo aggiornamento fatto è stato la versione ultima di KDE, ma l'ho fatto qualche giorno fa e fino a ieri andava più che bene...

quando fece l'upgrade di xorg anche la mia debian ebbe problemi
rifeci la configurazione semplicemente

salvati una copia di xorg.conf e prova xorgconfig

cd /etc/X11
cp xorg.conf xxorg.conf

poi puoi fare tutte le prove che vuoi

Niente, rifatto tutto da capo, esce la stessa cosa: "Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation."

questo non è un errore fatale, se ti dà fastidio cancella
la riga FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/" da /etc/xorg.conf

controlla ~/.xinitrc (o .xsession) o qualunque file venga letto da xinit
(probabilmente, nel tuo caso, /opt/kde/bin/startkde) : dovresti trovare qualcosa
tipo xset fp= /path/to/fonts
...sistema i percorsi ai font.
nemmeno questo è un errore fatale per X

purtoppo non uso kde...non saprei che dirti, se non di dare un'occhiata a startkde

prova a fare il reinstall dei pacchetti di kde

fai il cat dei log di xserver con il grep | EE e guarda se vedi altri errori
