ho anche scaricato libXext da xorg ma quando vado in ./configure

Probabilmente hai installato Xorg 6.x e stai cercando di installare qualcosa che richiede il 7.0 (che è modulare e ogni libreria ha un pacchetto a parte).

Non so come sia messa centos, magari prova a reinstallare xorg

in teoria, se hai Xorg 6.x dovresti avere anche Xext, se hai la 7.0 allora hai per forza anche Xproto,...in teoria...
