errore in un if then per una select html

ciao a tutti,
ho un problema col codice seguente.

n_question_present è = 1
question_no = 1

non riesco a capire perché non mi stampa il SELECT.
eppure le response.write stampano:

question_no=1
question_no+1=2
j=2
j+1=3


che devo fa ?
