Scoprire se un oggetto è nothing

Salve,

qualcuno sa se è possibile capire se un oggetto è Nothing o meno? (avete presente il set oggetto=nothing)

premetto che non posso usare null, però non riesco a capire se un oggetto è o meno nothing in maniera da evitare l'errore nel caso che l'oggetto non sia istanziato e io lo usassi lo stesso
