Certo che è possibile in questo modo :

select * from tab1
where tab1.col1 in ( select tab2.col1 from tab2
where col3='x' )

è chiara ????

Non per tutti i database e per tutti i casi però.
Generalmente ad esempio Access accetta tutto mentre MySQL solo qualcosa e solo da alcune versioni, le più recenti.
