come si crea il cheksum di un codice a barre EAN 13 in php?

Scusate il terra-terra:

Ho trovato questo codice che crea codice a barre in pdf. Vorrei che qualcuno mi aiutasse a fare un esempio pratico ovvero, dato una stringa di tot cifre a inizio pagina, mi creasse un files in pdf (o comunque anche un'immagine da visualizzare sarebbe già tanto) con codice a barre
